Stewarton Kirkford Bridge Overflow Upgrade

Kirkford Bridge

The road is a key route into Stewarton from the M77 and Glasgow

At this location:

We are updating an existing storm overflow and associated pipework to help alleviate flooding during periods of extreme weather.

Work began in June 2025 and will take approximately six months to complete. The required road closure was timed to coincide with the school summer holiday to minimise disruption to the community and was completed nearly a month ahead of schedule.

The project is part of our £500million Improving Urban Waters investment programme.

Update September 2025

From Monday 22 September 2025 the B778 Holm Street will be shut at the junction with Bridgend for approximately two weeks.

Our utility partners need to divert other existing utilities which requires the road to be closed so the work can be carried out safely.

Diversions are in place, including an alternative route for heavy goods vehicles, and we would advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.

The work and traffic management is being carried out and managed by SGN, and anyone with enquiries should contact them on 0800 912 1700.
